The meaning behind “memyselfdonuts”

Like many, Instagram was a place to share photos with fun filters and connect with friends from school. I never envisioned myself taking Instagram seriously, never mind having the audience that I do now. A couple years ago, I decided to take it a step further. But first, let me explain my username…

We all have had bad chapters in our lives. Some that close on a good note, and others…not so much! I lost who I was when that chapter closed. Not knowing what made me happy, what brought me joy, did I even like myself? And the answer to those questions, honestly, I had no idea at the time. One thing I did know, I loved donuts…so much! 

I had a dream of traveling the country finding the best donut and I did just that. I have only been to 12 states (more on that later) but I went on my quest. I started to put myself first, honoring my feelings and validating the experiences that I had happened to me. After some thought, I jumped back into Instagram and needed a new username, something that was me! I decided that no one or thing can hurt me the way my last chapter did. It was me…myself and the thing that I really enjoyed was donuts! I rediscovered myself in the journey of healing.

Fast forward a year, my audience on Instagram became to know me as donuts, the donut chick, the reseller who loves donuts! Followers would tag me in stories or posts of donut apparel, or their favorite donut! A username…just stuck!

So, friends, that is what my username means. Find the little things that make you happy, to believe in dreams that you see for yourself and time heals…with a donut!
